This past weekend, Bleat’s David Turner jetted off to Portugal to judge and present our sponsored awards at FEST – New Directors | New Films Festival Pitching Forum. Here, Stella Carneiro won the Bleat Post Production Award in the Feature Gem category for her film pitch on ‘Daughters of the Mangrove’, about four daughters who seek out their own paths under their father’s strict household in Brazil, where “life and death coexist in the mud.”
The Bleat Post Production Award in the Make It Short category was awarded to Nadia Dawber and Maria Torres for their short film, ‘My Love, Jenin.’ The story is based on a true event where a Palestinian attends a family reunion after returning to Jenin Camp in the West Bank. The themes of identity and resistance are explored as the celebration turns heated ahead of “an Israeli invasion”.
All pitches were thoroughly engaging and well presented. We can’t wait to see the final edits and contribute to the post production.
